As the Executive Head of Hippo.co.za, Vera Nagtegaal’s extensive experience in business speaks to her drive and passion for forming mutually beneficial partnerships within the corporate environment.

Vera’s experience extends over 15 years and includes marketing and branding at online commerce website Kalahari.net (now Takealot.com) before she founded Lipco Corporate that specialises in the white labelling of Lipco Law For All's affordable legal cover policies to various big name South African corporates.

In her role as Executive Head of Hippo.co.za, Vera has lead the business into a new phase of customer experience and digital innovation, starting with the implementation of a new business structure that aims to further strengthen the Insurance offering and also develop products and services under the Health & Wealth, Money, Travel and Cars verticals.

I am passionate about innovation and questioning assumptions to test where we can stretch our thinking. The Foundery is RMB's R&D innovation lab - where banking ideas can become reality.
I am also passionate about creating space for women to thrive in the workplace and am passionately involved in RMB's gender movement called Athena.
I speak regularly on the topic of women in leadership and feel strongly that we need this conversation to be ongoing and open

Why this forum is important

  • "Being a woman in any field in corporate is a challenge. It is more of a challenge to be in a field that is still considered “new” like data management or digital and to have a “safe space” to share is needed and most welcome. This initiative can provide a network where we can share knowledge; encourage, hunt in packs and most importantly help the young women in the industry. "

Gcobisa Gaxela, Head: Enterprise Data Quality Management, Nedbank Ltd

  • "Gender parity in the workplace remains a critical conversation, and in some of the more male dominated industries, this is further exacerbated. As Women in Digital and Data, it becomes that much more important to create a community - not only to be able to get together and talk about issues of relevance and importance, but to share knowledge, and impart skills to each other. This is a great initiative that will deliver a sense of belonging, and a safe space for exploration and discourse - both personally and professionally"

Lerato Semenya, Head of Group Data and Analytics Business Services, Sasol

  • "This is an extremely important initiative, as women over the years have made valuable contributions towards technology advancement as a whole, but over time have been overlooked. Given that we are in the age of data, women play a crucial role to bring their own feminine flare to solving problems with data, in what is still seen as a man’s world, a lot like Katherine Goble Johnson did for NASA. This project creates a platform whereby experiences, approaches, thoughts can collectively be shared to help women move forward and remain in the digital world of technology & data."

Shalain Gopal, Data Science Lead, Barclays Capital
